Minister of Worship—Full Time
(Also known as Worship Leader)
Qualifications and Job Description
Personal:
The minister of worship should be first, a person of God, and second, a musician. This person should be an example to the believers in personal godliness and demonstrate a growing and active relationship with Jesus Christ that is evidenced in all aspects of their life.
Ministry Description:
To lead and develop the worship ministry of the church, with a focus on music. To work with the current foundation of music and worship while continuing to develop this ministry as God would direct. To lead the members of the congregation into a greater understanding and practice of worship both on a corporate and individual level. To develop people within the congregation to lead and participate in the various forms of worship ministry. To explore new ways of improving the ministry of worship, as guided by the Word of God and the Holy Spirit in conjunction with the leadership of the church.
Qualifications:
- Spiritual qualifications—some form of formal biblical training preferred;
- Have a clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ;
- Passionate, growing, personal relationship with God;
- Have a history of proven moral purity as a Christian;
- Be an initiator and self-starter with a passion for leading the church into participatory worship;
- Be teachable, willing to be held accountable, a team player with a positive attitude;
- Be committed to having a tight and healthy relationship with the Senior Pastor.
- Experience in church worship and music;
- Music qualifications—BA/BS in music preferred;
- Able to lead music in a traditional setting as well as in more contemporary ways, which would include the use of technology and other various forms of modern worship direction;
- Able to teach and train members of the congregation to be effective worshipers, and recruit, develop and train people to lead and participate in the leadership of worship;
- Willingness to work in a multi-staff environment with mutual respect and encouragement as well as being open to suggestion from church leadership and congregation;
- Demonstrate submission to the Word of God as well as a strong agreement with the faith, doctrine and practices of First Baptist Church.
Duties and Goals of Ministry:
- The Minister of Worship will work with the pastor to plan, organize and lead the worship services of FBC;
- Meet with pastor to discuss the music and worship elements of the service
- Prayerfully plan and arrange music and worship elements of the service;
- Meet with music teams or individuals for rehearsal as needed;
- Lead or develop leaders to lead the worship and music components of the worship services;
- Lead and develop new or different avenues and opportunities for worship as needed for the continued benefit and improvement of FBC.
- The Minister of Worship will lead and guide the individual worship ministry groups of the congregation. (these groups currently include, but are not limited to; choir, praise team, handbells, ensembles, children’s choir, drama teams, technology committee);
- Evaluate and develop existing music groups as needed by the church;
- Meet with individual groups for rehearsal, training, leadership development and encouragement as needed;
- Provide ministry and musical assistance as needed;
- Prayerfully consider new ministry group opportunities and lead the process in the envisioning, developing, growing, and encouraging these groups;
- Provide leadership for the music committee;
- Plan and organize special musical guest presentations for the congregation and community, in the form of concerts etc.
- The Minister of Worship will be responsible for the duties inherent with his/her position as a staff member;
- Maintain office hours at the church during the week for study, prayer and communication with members and music participants;
- Attend weekly staff meeting for communication and mutual edification with other staff members;
- Prepare reports and announcements as needed for various functions and meetings of the church;
- Attend cabinet meetings on a regular basis;
- Attend business meetings and other congregational meetings on a regular basis;
- Meet with other groups in the church to facilitate the ministry of worship, as needed;
- Work with the Elders to provide pastoral care to those members of the congregation in their ministry sphere.
- Continue to grow and mature through appropriate learning opportunities, conferences, classes, etc.
- The Minister of Worship will be responsible to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit in the pursuit of his/her own gifts and abilities as they benefit the body. It is understood that some of these gifts and passions may not be reflected in the above description. The Minister of Worship will be encouraged to develop these gifts. Although these other ministry pursuits should not detract from the above listed description, such investment of time and attention is a benefit to the body and is encouraged.
