Additional Background Information

First Baptist Church of Crawfordsville is an American Baptist Church and has a long history of ministry.  Our church was established in 1838.  However, it was not called a church but a “meeting house.”  The first minister, William Pratt, was referred to as a “Pioneer Baptist Missionary.”  In 168 years, First Baptist has moved three times.  We moved to our current location on the east side of Crawfordsville in 1975.

Crawfordsville is a small town of about 15, 243 people.  We have an attendance of approximately 325 each Sunday morning.  Most of our members live within ten miles of the church, however, there are many who drive ten to twenty miles on a regular basis.

One of our main assets is the intergenerational aspect of our church.  We participate in denominational meetings but in a small number.  We have two very active groups of American Baptist Women.

We are a congregation of mostly working-class people.  Many are employed in the local factories.  We also have several teachers, health professionals, and of course, clerical and service professions.  Our congregation consists mainly of white Caucasians; however, there are a few Asians and African Americans.   We are a very mission-minded church.
